Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli has struggled throughout the T20 World Cup 2024. His poor form continued in the semi-final against England, where he was dismissed for a low score by Reece Topley in the 3rd over.

Kohli has managed only 75 runs in 7 matches, averaging around 11 with a strike rate of 100. This is a stark contrast to his stellar IPL 2024 performance, where he scored over 700 runs at a strike rate above 150.

Kohli's sudden slump has drawn widespread criticism, from harsh voices like Sunil Gavaskar to more supportive ones like former India coach Ravi Shastri.

In an interaction with Star Sports, Shastri revealed that Kohli's early attempts at aggressive shots are causing his dismissals. Shastri said, "This is not his game. With Rohit Sharma playing aggressively at the other end, Virat can take his time and play more orthodox shots. He's trying to get out of his zone and getting out in a similar fashion."

Shastri emphasized that rhythm is key: "It's not quite there for him. He's trying to manufacture shots that aren't there. You do that when you're in top form. But when you're struggling to break free, it's not easy."

In the ongoing World Cup, Kohli's aggressive intent has led to frequent dismissals. On Thursday, he was bowled out after stepping out to hit through the leg side but missing as the ball seamed in. Despite this, India's head coach, Rahul Dravid, remains unconcerned about Kohli's form ahead of the crucial final against South Africa.



Rohit Sharma has guided India into the ICC T20 World Cup final with his leadership and batting prowess. However, it is former captain Virat Kohli who remains in the spotlight for different reasons. The 35-year-old, with 529 matches and nearly 29,000 runs since his 2008 debut, has been a shadow of his former self in this tournament.
