Emotional Jasprit Bumra Tears Flow After T20 World Cup Victory
Bumrah earned the Player of the Series award after taking 15 wickets in the tournament, boasting an impressive economy rate of 4.17.
Jasprit Bumrah shined in the tournament with 15 wickets, including an impressive two for 18 in the final, leading India to a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa to clinch their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in Barbados on Saturday.
Awarded the Player of the Series, Bumrah shared, "I'm usually the one who keeps my emotions in check, but today I’m speechless. I don't usually cry after a game, but the emotions are overwhelming.
"We were in a tough spot, but we’re ecstatic to have pulled through. With my family here and after coming so close last time, there’s no better feeling than securing the win for the team."
Bumrah, who took out Reeza Hendricks and Marco Jansen in the final, said, "On the big day, you have to deliver. Throughout the tournament, I stayed focused on one ball and one over at a time, never looking too far ahead. Emotions can be intense, and they were today, but you have to control them. Now that the game is over, I can finally let it all out and celebrate."
South Africa seemed poised for victory, needing only 30 runs from the last five overs with six wickets in hand. Bumrah bowled the 16th and 18th overs, giving away just six runs and dismissing Jansen. "I saw the ball was a bit scuffed up and thought it might reverse a bit. I considered what shot would be hardest for the batter and executed my plan," said the 30-year-old.
